The Western team finished off their historic season with a trip to the State Finals at Bedford Valley GC in Gull Lake, Michigan. Unfortunately, the boys got off to a sluggish start in round one shooting a score of 337 good for 16th place. Captain Eli Herrington was the lone bright spot on day one as he fired a 79. On day two the boys showed their competitive spirit and mental toughness as they bounced back and shot a score of 318 good for 10th place on the day. Andrew Boldt shot a 74, followed by Captain Hayden Kim's 75, Tony Miller's 84, and Sutton Johnston's 85. Their combined score of 355 was good for a 14th place finish in the State. While the team was disappointed in their day one round, it did not take away from their incredible season. Many would say that golf is the ultimate individual sport; this team would argue that it is the ultimate team game. Time and time again, they rallied around each other and willed each other to success. They truly measured their individual success based on the success of the team. While they all shot personal bests this season, nothing was celebrated more than the team's trip to the State Finals. The team owes a debt of gratitude to all the boys, but especially seniors Hayden KIm, Eli Herrington, and Sutton Johnston. Because of their actions, they have laid the foundation and given the underclassmen the key to success. Yes, we want to hit more fairways, improve our greens in regulation, and avoid three putts to improve our own score, but this team worked on those things so they could help the team score. Because of these young men, we are confident that it won't be another 40 years until the Panthers return to the State Finals. The 2-day combined score was 655!
Go Panthers!
